Make Friends With the School Nurse–Retired Nurse Sketches Her Old Self

August 8, 2008 Filed Under: Nursing Information

For children who are somewhat apprehensive of that smiling woman in the nurse’s office, this book is for them. Marjorie Picard, R.N. (Ret.), a prize-winning artist, tells children there is nothing to fear in her new children’s book, Meet The School Nurse, which she penned and illustrated herself.

Schoolchildren will have to go to the school clinic sooner or later. And sooner or later, they will meet the friendly woman there. Picard gently teaches children who this woman is and what she does in terms that children will find easy to understand and relate to, citing examples of common illnesses and afflictions that affect schoolchildren like rashes, fever and “head bugs.” The book also showcases Picard’s dexterous hand for drawing, with all illustrations created by her. Meet The School Nurse can play a great supporting role in the extra-curricular education of schoolchildren and diminish their fearfulness of trips to the school clinic.
