Paul Florent Gibson, 89, of Manassas, formerly of Acton, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Manassas Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born March 5, 1919 in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was the son of Florent and Beatrice Wertz Gibson. On Nov. 4, 1941 in Pittsburgh, he married the former Jeanne (Shangraw) Sheldon who preceded him in death on Jan. 8, 2001.

Mr. Gibson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in mechanical engineering, and a minor in aeronautics. He started his professional career at the Naval Aircraft Factory, Philadelphia, where he designed aircraft and missile systems during and after World War II.

After serving as the chief engineer at Wing Engineering, he and two associates founded Spar Engineering and Development Corporation. He subsequently worked for the RCA Corporation as an engineer and program manager in Moorestown, N.J., Burlington and Vint Hill Farms Station, Va. His business travel took him to five continents.

He was a faithful member of All Saints Catholic Church, and along with his wife, was a very active member of the Meals on Wheels program. They loved ballroom dancing, community theater and bridge. He was an accomplished woodworker, avid golfer, musician and loving father. He had a good sense of humor, loved words games, and always had a good joke to share with friends and family.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. John Gibson. Survivors include one son, Paul S. Gibson and his wife Vicky of Manassas; three daughters, Andrea Beranek and her husband Bernard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Jeannette Bahre of Wells, Maine; Bernadette McConnell and her husband Christopher of Manassas; one sister, Mary Winter and her husband Norbert of Pittsburgh; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Family and friends were invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial at All Saints Catholic Church, 9300 Stonewall Road, Manassas, on Aug. 13. The Rev. James Tucker was the Celebrant. Interment followed in Stonewall Memory Gardens, Manassas, Va.

Andrew Guarnieri, 58

AYER — Andrew Guarnieri, 58, the beloved husband of Tuey Guarnieri, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nev.

He was born in Boston on Nov. 20, 1949, the son of Andrew Guarnieri of Littleton and the late Violet (DiNitto) Guarnieri.

Mr. Guarnieri joined Instrumentation Laboratories, Inc. (IL) in 1969 as an electrical engineer. He continued until his departure in 1984 as engineering manager. Leaving the world of medical testing equipment, he joined Kurzweil Music Systems in 1984 as director of international development. Andrew not only was responsible for all of the design and development, he started the first manufacturing ventures with companies in Singapore and Malaysia. He was fortunate enough to work with such musical luminaries as Stevie Wonder, Kenny Rogers, the Moody Blues, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

His work at Kurzweil combined Mr. Guarnieri’s love of music and travel. He worked and visited most of the major cities in the Far East, including Tokyo, Hong Kong, Bombay, Singapore, Seoul, and Bangkok.

Bangkok became a place of special significance since that is where he met the love of his life, Tuey. In 1986, his wife, Tuey, and his son, Lin, joined him in Acton. He celebrated a banner year in 1989 with the birth of his daughter, Anshalee, and a new company, Guarnieri Engineering Associates, an engineering company assisting companies to design, develop, and test products for the electronics industry.

He continued to travel all over the world with his wife and children while pandering to his hobby of photography. Mr. Guarnieri won many awards for his photos that included the Emerald Buddha in Bangkok to Mickey Mouse in Disney World.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by two children, Lin and Anshalee Guarnieri, all of Ayer; a brother, Ron Guarnieri of Las Vegas, Nev.; a nephew and two nieces.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 16, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, 75 King St. (Route 2A), Littleton.

Doris L. Manatt, 85

LEOMINSTER – Doris L. (Lambert) Manatt, 85, died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, in Keystone Nursing Center.
She was predeceased by her husband John Robert Manatt in 1997.

She was born in Leominster on May 24, 1923, the daughter of Arthur and Lillian (Roberts) Lambert and had lived in Leominster all her life. She was a 1941 graduate of Leominster High School and graduated from the Burbank School of Nursing, Class of 1945, in Fitchburg as a registered nurse.

After graduation she worked 12 years for Burbank Hospital before becoming a full time homemaker. Before retiring, she also worked for over 15 years for the city of Leominster as a crossing guard assigned on the Merriam Avenue and Blossom Street corner.

Doris and John had been members of the SMART club for military retirees who love to travel in RVs. They enjoyed many years of traveling around the country always anticipating meeting up with old retired military friends. She was also an excellent seamstress and an avid Red Sox fan.

She was a lifelong and very active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church of Leominster. She enjoyed bible study group and also volunteered at the church thrift store on Saturday’s and helped with the Christmas bazaar each year. She enjoyed music, especially the big band era and attended many Leominster Colonial Band Concerts conducted by her son-in-law Steven.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan J. Manatt and husband Jeremy Rogers of Shelburne Falls, formerly of Conway and Judith L. Piermarini and husband Steven J. Piermarini of Acton; a step-daughter Jessica-Jean Isrep and husband Mohamed Isrep of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and six grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Aug. 11 in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Leominster. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery also in Leominster.

The Silas F. Richardson & Son Funeral Home, Leominster, was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth W. O’Donnell

ACTON — Ruth W. O’Donnell, formerly of Woburn, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008.

She was the daughter of the late Mary Agnes (Kelley) and John P. O’Donnell.

Ms. O’Donnell is survived by 13 nieces and nephews; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was also the sister of the late John O’Donnell, Mary R. Corcoran, and Bernice Cowie.

A funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 15, from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, 100 Washington St., Woburn.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14. Services will conclude with burial in Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
